The Time Traveler

by Pamela HoritaniJuly 20, 2022

I fell in love with a time traveler. Several years my senior, he stilled himself for hours, caressing my skin, gazing into my eyes, as if he could hardly believe my heart was his. "Why become a time traveler?" I once asked, concerned he would soon depart.

"I wasn't always," he answered, drawing me nearer. "Before this voyage, I was a biologist."

"Really! A biologist?" I marveled, raising a cigarette to my lips. "Why change course now?" I pressed.

Taking my hand into his, he replied in barely a whisper, "because I was not able to cure cancer until after your death."
